The idea was interesting, and one of the groups had a pretty nice-looking prototype. Most of the features we decided to add were just assumptions on what a search and rescue team might need, and unfortunately we didn't have the input of anyone with experience in the field to tell us what is really needed to help coordinate search and rescue efforts. The intent of the project was just programming practice, and not rally creating something for actual use.
I wonder what apps already may exist, and what features they have.
This was an interesting project I would be interesting in perusing further, especially with a group with similar interests.
I think an iOS app would be an ideal format for this application.
If you would like to discuss what it would take to create something that met the needs of the search and rescue community (from just a theoretical standpoint or with the intent to start such a project), I'd be delighted to talk to you.

You guys undertook a very difficult task. I think that a SAR app is an awesome idea but there is so much involved, different disciplines to cover (ground, water, technical, command, etc.)that I think it will be some time before we see something that works well and is convienent and easy enough to use to take the place of good ol' pencil and paper.
